The submarine tender AMBA joined the Indian Navy on 28 Dec 1968 designed to provide logistic and technical support to the submarines. In addition it also catered for comfortable accomodation to submarine crews away from thier main base.

Amba carried out her role of submarine tender very effectively on the East Coast, before her services were required in Bombay after the first Vela class submarines arrived on the West Coast in end 73.

INS Amba, apart from providing logistic and accomodation support to submarines, can also provide training to the submarine attack crew. Her well equipped workshop can prepare and supply torpedoes to our submarines operating away from their bases.

Amba will be celebrating her own Silver Jubilee anniversary in 1993.
